Method Statements (RAMS) Development

What are RAMS?

RAMS stands for Risk Assessment Method Statement, which is an important Health and Safety document created after a risk assessment has been completed. RAMS details the process and resources required to carry out certain activities safely and without risks to the health of those on site.

RAMS are not always required to accompany every risk assessment, just those where tasks or activities may be high risk, such as within the construction sector.  Completing a RAMS for construction projects helps to manage any planned work and ensure that the necessary precautions have been communicated to everyone involved.

It's now becoming a standard requirement by third parties in the sector for trades people to produce RAMS should they wish to work on larger projects. This demonstrates that a contractor understands the risks of the project and has taken steps to control these.

Producing the RAMS

At Fellows, we take Health and Safety very seriously. Getting your RAMS wrong can not only be dangerous and delay work, but it can impact your business financially and ultimately damage your reputation.

Whatever industry you’re in, Fellows can support with the creation of RAMS. Working hand in hand, our team will assess your current setup and support you to get RAMS developed for any size job, taking in to account site-specific needs or requirements.

Working with the RAMS

When putting together a RAMS, Fellows use a standard method statement template which is designed to ensure that key processes and procedures are outlined in the final document.

However, RAMS development is constantly ongoing. We pride ourselves on being flexible, so this template can be adapted to the needs of each individual client if necessary.

Implementation of a UXO RAMS allows an on-site Fellows Engineer to easily work alongside other sub-contractors as well as differing working methodologies, such as archaeological, piling, or demolition.

It’s worth noting that nothing in the RAMS or accompanying Fellows risk assessment shall interfere with the operation of other methodologies on site, without due recourse to the Fellows Lead Engineer or if necessary, head office.

What does the RAMS cover?

A Risk Assessment Method Statement covers many different Health and Safety considerations, including, but not limited to:

  • Toolbox talks

  • Safety and environmental controls

  • Reinstatement of ground

  • UXO engineer’s qualification and experience

  • Insurance

  • Quality control
